Probe after man jumped out of car and tried to snatch dog from garden in Midlothian. #PetTheftReform

The would-be dog thief left the area empty-handed after being challenged by a person living nearby

A man jumped out a car and tried to snatch a dog from a garden in Midlothian this week.

Police are investigating the alarming incident, which happened at a property in George Terrace, Loanhead, on Monday evening.

They say that at around 6.10pm a male was seen leaving a red car and reaching over a garden fence for the dog. However he ran off empty-handed after being challenged by a neighbour.

Officers add that inquiries are ongoing in a bid to identify the person responsible, and anyone with information should come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Police in Midlothian are investigating following a report of an attempted dog theft in Loanhead.

“The incident happened around 6.10pm on Monday 22 April within a garden in George Terrace.

“A male was seen to exit a red car and reach over a garden fence before being challenged by a neighbour and leaving the area.

“Inquiries are ongoing to identify this individual and anyone with information is asked to come forward.” Call Police on 101
